Africana Studies is a department with a faculty dedicated to the teaching and research of African peoples and the African Diasporas, and the cultures, histories, and current events therein. Faculty are supported by an active advisory board and experienced groups of administrators and staff.

Hawkes Receives SHARP Development Grant 

DeLisa D. Hawkes, assistant professor of Africana studies at UT, received a research development grant from the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading and Publishing (SHARP). The grant is for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) scholars and assists Hawkes with conducting research for her first book project tentatively titled Separate Yet Intertwined: Black and Native Bonds in the Ongoing New Negro Renaissance.
