Biography
Dr. Florence A. Dery is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Africana Studies. Dr. Dery’s primary area of teaching and research focuses on health inequities and social and environmental production of health and wellbeing, specifically, environment and health connections and global health. While most of her research is situated in a global context, her regional specialization is in North America and Africa, where she explores women empowerment, placed-based perceptions and understandings of health and wellbeing as well as the links between contextual attributes of places, and population health and wellbeing especially among underrepresented populations. She collaborates with researchers, policy makers, community groups, and development agencies on various research projects. Dr. Dery is committed to impactful and transformational research in global health. She has published in several peer review journals including Social Science & Medicine, Wellbeing, Space and Society, and Journal of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene for Development.
